News and AnnouncementsSEPTEMBER Band practice will start again on Saturday,September 13th, see you there, don't be late! BERGEN VISIT The visit to Pembroke's twin town of Bergen was a great success, and thoroughly enjoyed by all who went. The journey went well and although we were on the coach for 19 hours we all managed to sleep quite a lot. On arrival in Bergen we were provided with a great evening meal by the ladies of the town hall and then went to our accommodation in the Nato Barracks about 3K outside Bergen. Some of us were a little surprised at the rather spartan accommodation but once everyone had spread their belongings all over the place the rooms soon looked like bedrooms at home! The single sex (male!) shower and toilet facilities caused much hilarity but once rotas for washing and showers were sorted out it all went very smoothly. A camp kitchen was set up in a spare room, there was tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits for all so we all felt at home. All our meals were provided at the town hall or barbecues (german sausages!) and the food was fantastic. At least one of our older members admitted to gaining a few pounds. A busy programme had been arranged for us and the few days went very quickly. Hopefully a report written by members will soon be added here. We left after playing a concert with the Bergen band and made the long trip home. All band members were a credit to the band, the town and their parents, it was a fantastic trip and Val is already thinking about the next one! COFFEE MORNING The Coffee Morning was a resounding success, everyone worked hard and we raised a fantastic £500 towards the trip to Germany. Many thanks to all the parents who helped and to members who played all morning.
CAR BOOT SALES June and Sadie raised over £300 at car boot sales, thanks to them for their hard work.
JUNIOR BAND We have now started a junior section which runs alongside the senior band on Saturdays from 10.00 - 11.00am. Juniors are then welcome to sit in with the seniors for the rest of the morning. OLD NEWS! GALA CONCERT The Gala Concert was a fantastic success, it was standing room only in Pembroke Town Hall. The band played magnificently and the new Gareth Wood piece, 'Castle Music', commissioned to celebrate our Silver Jubilee, was very well received. It was night to remember, probably the best concert we have ever done, and so good to have a number of players come back to play with us. With the proceeds of the concert we have now purchased a new tenor saxophone which one of the clarinet section has started to learn. WEll DONE EVERYBODY you were brilliant, thanks also to all the parents for their support and help on the night which made it such a memorable occasion.
Move Back to Foundry House We have now moved back to Foundry House, however our costs have now risen by 500% so it is essential that everyone comes to band every week otherwise we shall not cover the rent let alone have money to buy music or instruments. When we learnt how much the rent would be parents decided to put the subs up to £1.50 a week with an annual subscription of £10 per family, this is now in operation. New players are always welcome. We have a number of instruments needing people to play them, particularly tuba, trombone, euphonium and tenor horns. |
