Castle Brass

News and Announcements

The last year has been a fairly quiet one when we have lost some members through retirement or moving away but we have been delighted to have new players joining us, especially a trombonist, which has added to the sound of the band. However we have bought a number of new pieces of music which we have enjoyed learning, these have all added to our repertoire.

We now have a Facebook page which goes under the title of Castle Brass Community Wind Band Pembrokeshire. A rather lengthy title but necessary to distinguish it from another, now defunct, one.

We worked hard throughout the autumn for our Gala Concert, please see our concerts page for reports on this. Then followed Remembrance Sunday when we played for the special 100th WW1 Anniversary Service.

We completed our summer concert programme with a concert for St Twynnells, one we always enjoy, and then we had a break during August. now we are working on new music with a view to a very special concert later in the year.

See Concerts Page.

A number of new players have joined the band in the past few months and this has strengthened the band particularly in the brass section. Their expertise is most welcome and we are now able to attempt music we did not have the line up for previously.

NEW PLAYERS

New players of any age and level are always welcome and in addition to the oboe we have clarinet, flute, tenor saxophone, trombone, euphonium, French horn, tuba and trumpets available.

ARCHIVE REPORTS ( Very, Very Old News)

On June 24th 2016 we gave a concert to celebrate the band's Thirty Fifth Anniversary and once again we packed the Town Hall. It was interesting to compare the programme with that of our Twenty Fifth Anniversary concert and see how much the playing ability had improved, with an increased level of difficulty in most of the pieces played.

GALA CONCERT

The Gala Concert was a fantastic success, it was standing room only in Pembroke Town Hall. The band played magnificently and the new Gareth Wood piece, 'Castle Music', commissioned to celebrate our Silver Jubilee, was very well received. It was night to remember, probably the best concert we have ever done, and so good to have a number of players come back to play with us.

With the proceeds of the concert we have now purchased a new tenor saxophone which one of the clarinet section has started to learn.

WEll DONE EVERYBODY you were brilliant, thanks also to all the parents for their support and help on the night which made it such a memorable occasion.
