Concerts and Engagements

The Christmas Season is here and we have our usual engagement in Pembroke Castle on Saturday, 30h Nov. for their Christmas Fair. This is something we all enjoy doing and we always have an assortment of extra percussion to engage with all the small children who like to join in all the well know Christmas numbers.

We are in the process of firming up engagements for Saturdays leading up to Christmas, so watch this space.

The concert on October 27th was a great success, the school choir, under the direction of Mrs Elaine Davies, from Ysgol Harri Tudur participated, Mr Pete Kingdom, head of the Drama Department assisted with his technical skills and the caretaking staff did all they could to make the evening run smoothly.

Declan Connellan, Sam Hodgson and Emma Minshall performed solos which won terrific applause. The Mozart Rondo from the 4th Horn Concerto was heard, as never before, played on a length of hosepipe as the eminent soloist, Laurence Davies, had lost his horn, fortunately it was found and his niece, Tanwen, brought it on stage shorly after the band had launched into the piece. A quick restart and we all enjoyed the well known Rondo.

Proceeds from ticket sales, programmes and a raffle raised a profit of £1,400 which is being used by the Renal Unit in Bristol where the transplant took place, Withybush Renal Unit and Kidney Wales. In all a fantastic evening.

We are planning a special concert to take place in the autumn. One of our members has donated a kidney to a relative with kidney failure, the operation has been successful and the recipient is enjoying a much improved quality of life.

To celebrate the outstanding courage of this band member we have decided to give a concert in aid of Kidney reseach and the Renal Unit.

A special item in this concert will be a performance of the Rondo from Mozart's 4th Horn Concerto The soloist will be Laurence Davies, Principal Horn with the Philharmonia Orchestra for ten years and then with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. We are already working hard at the transcribed orchestral parts.

This concert is now planned for 7.30pm on October 27th, the first Saturday of the October half term, and will be held in the new concert hall of Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School, the brand new comprehansive school in Pembroke which opens this September.

Past Engagements

New Year Lunch

The New Year Lunch, which has now become a fixture in the band programme, was a very enjoyable occasion with 30 people attending.

The Tea Shop catered for us very well and served us superb food. We shall be back again next year!

Carew Castle

The engagement in Carew Castle for the Classic Car Rally was spoilt by the weather but it was quite an experience to play in the Great Hall where our music was enjoyed by car enthusiasts wanting respite from the rain!

35th Anniversary Concert

The 35th Anniversary Gala Concert was a great success, on Friday 24th June 2016 we played to a packed Town Hall in Pembroke. We were honoured with the presence of the Chairman of the County Council and the Mayors of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock.

The varied programme was well received and included items by Golden Grove School Choir who sang beautifully, in addition an alto sax item from Sam Hodgson and a violin solo by Eleanor Hodgson highlighted the wealth of talent in the area.

The evening ended with a complimentary glass of wine for members of the audience which gave past and present members of the band, along with friends, the chance to watch the slide show of past band events and visits abroad which had been prepared by CllrTessa Hodgson who compered the event.

We welcome invitations to play at fetes and carnivals but we are not a marching band, we are also happy to play for arts clubs, harvest suppers etc.

As we are completely self supporting we would charge a small fee for such events.
